FARMWORKERS NEEDED FOR RICE & CRAWFISH FARMING OPERATION & ASSISTANCE WITH LIVESTOCK. Farm workers needed for crawfish season followed by rice season. Seasonal need begins with preparing for crawfish season in early spring and continues into rice planting and harvesting in fall. Crawfish season extends from mid Janaury until early summer. Rice is planted in or around March. Harvesting of rice occurs during late summer and fall. Duties: manually cutting fish bait; baiting and checking traps; grading and washing crawfish for shipment; making and repairing traps as needed; tractor driving; field preparation*; water maintenance; fertilizing, planting, and harvesting crops; repairing and maintaining equipment, fields, levees, roads, and shops; operating crawfish boat and tractors.* Field preparation includes manual shovel work and hoeing weeds, spot spraying treatments, and extensive walking and may include driving tractors. Farm workers will also be needed to assist with livestock. The workers will need to move the livestock safely; feed and water livestock, assist with calving, vaccinations, castrations, tagging livestock, weaning calves as well as assisting in observing and maintaining cattle herd health. Workers will need to assist in preparing sale cows and calves for sale, and maintaining fences, corrals, barns, pasture improvements, and livestock equipment used for proper cattle management; clean stalls, sheds, barns using shovel.
