Jobs offered are working in a greenhouse, nursery, and/or landscaping operation handling both manual and mechanized tasks. Crops/commodities: nursery stock (trees, shrubs, flowers). Plant, cultivate, and harvest horticultural commodities including trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials. Workers will perform activities including but not limited to planting, digging, mulching, transplanting, mowing, and watering in nurseries and seasonal holding houses. Prune, trim, space, transplant and cull plants to ensure availability of marketable product. Count, tag, and inventory plants. Propagate or graft plants from cuttings. Load finished product onto wagons and trucks. Work may include incidental installation of plants or trees at customer locations within the metropolitan statistical area (MSA). Assist with building, covering, and uncovering seasonal holding houses. Fill, lift, and carry various sized pots with soil and plants weighing as much as 60 pounds. Plants must be handled carefully so that minimal leaves, limbs, and roots are broken during transplanting process. Workers may be required to perform variable tasks such as irrigation, ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, weeding, and other general farming tasks. Mow, cut, and weed fields. Perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. Bending, stooping and kneeling required. Use hand tools including but not limited to hoes, shovels, shears, clippers, loppers, and saws. Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Use power equipment including but not limited to: tractors, planters, mowers, plows, sprayers, cultivators, power shears, chain saws, high lifts, forklifts, skid loaders. Must operate agricultural equipment safely, with or without direction. Mix and apply fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, plant growth chemicals, conditioners, and other plant related treatments at the correct times depending on plant type, growth, climate, and crop conditions. Must understand nursery quality control standards and have working knowledge of production procedures. Workers must be able to work on teams as well as unsupervised. Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Assist with routine maintenance and repairs to farm buildings/equipment/machinery. Clean/sanitize work areas and equipment. Workers with appropriate license may be asked to drive company vehicles such as light farm pickup trucks. Work is done in the field for long periods of time. Workers may assist in handling product weighing up to 60 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet. Workers must work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movement and extensive walking. Work is required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures ranging from 10 to over 100 degrees F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Must wear assigned personal protective equipment with required. Must report for work wearing work clothes and boots or other durable footwear.
