Sod Farm Worker: Perform hand and/or machine weeding, water, spray, mow. Topdress with sand, cover and uncover with grow covers, and apply fertilizer, conditioners and weed control agents to sod. Operate agricultural equipment such as mowers, sod cutters, tractors, gators, lifts, loaders, topdressers and sod installer machines. Operate harvesters and forklifts to load and unload pallets of turf. Planting involves handling of netting, plastic, and geothermal materials. Harvesting requires hand insertion of sod tubes, removal of netting, cutting of sod with machete and disposal of plastic and geothermal materials. May operate harvester to lift sod from ground, roll, stack and load onto or into tractor trailers or dump trucks. Workers may assist in loading of trucks by lifting 75 pounds to a height of 5 feet or more repetitively. Work is to be done in the field for long periods of time. May install sod produced on the farm at off-site customer locations within a radial of 144 miles from the field in which it was grown. May install by hand or using sod installer machine. May operate and perform minor maintenance and repairs on farm vehicles, implements and equipment. Workers are expected to be able to operate agricultural equipment with or without direction. May repair irrigation, fences, sheds, and other farm buildings and structures. May participate in irrigation activities. Perform farm, field and shed sanitation duties. Remove trash and burn combustible debris. Mow grass and operate trimmer around farm buildings. Direct and monitor the work of casual and seasonal help during planting and harvesting. May operate farm vehicles to haul crops and drive other farmworkers from place to place around the farm properties (including on public roads to reach farmer’s fields) during the workday. May operate light truck or van off the farm and over the road to drive themselves or other farmworkers from place to place, such as to the grocery store, bank, government agencies, medical or dental offices and so forth. Though not a hiring requirement, if a worker drives a company vehicle during the period of employment then at the time of operating the company vehicle the driver must possess a valid driver’s license issued by a U.S. state or foreign equivalent and operate the company vehicle in accordance with company policy and the license restrictions and vehicle classifications applicable to that license.
