- Offer description:
Crops: Sod and Turf Planting: New fields are planted with a sprig machine that is pulled by a tractor. This is done by manually pitchforking sprigs into the planter while pulling the machine with a tractor. This job is usually done during the summer months. Sod/Turfgrass Harvesting: Assisting the farm manager in harvesting daily totals that are given each morning. This is done using an Automated Harvester Machine, Manual Stack Harvester, and Big Roll Harvester. The Automated Harvester is a single-man machine that requires computer knowledge and quick troubleshooting to fill orders. The manual harvester is tractors that require a driver and 2 individuals on the back manually stacking a pallet of sod/turfgrass. These numbers vary each day and can be completed in 30 min or a full day. Big Roll Harvester is a machine pulled by a tractor that requires 1 individual to run the machine while another is loading tubes used to roll the sod up. These machines harvest a 3.5' x 100' big roll. They dump out the back and are picked up with a forklift. Sod/Turfgrass Logistics: This consists of moving pallets or rolls in the field using forklifts. Forklift operation is required at certain times of the day for our orders. Sod/Turfgrass Mowing: Each field requires weekly mowing during the growing season which runs from May-November. This is done with a pull-behind mower behind a tractor. Sod/Turfgrass Installation: On certain occasions, we will install our sod/turfgrass and this is done with special installation equipment that picks up a big roll and rolls out the product. We use rakes to move so/turfgrass in place and this continues until complete. Field/Shop maintenance: As needed clean-up of any debris left from harvesting or weather-related occurrences as well as cleaning up of work area(s).
