The majority of job duties are closely and directly related to the production of crops and general farming in the spring and summer time when irrigation systems must be set up and operating in time for spring farming and prior to warm summer weather followed by the job duties required to irrigate growing crops, apply fertilizer and herbicides and mow cover crops. Perform any combination of the following tasks, involving equipment, required in crop production during spring and summer months: apply, monitor, and control fertigation (applying fertilizer through irrigation) chemicals applied through irrigation system; attach equipment extensions or accessories; inspect equipment to determine condition or maintenance needs; irrigate soil through operation of sprinkler systems which includes but is not limited to adjusting valves to start and/or adjust water flow, using proper material and methods to repair irrigation equipment; manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery; mix specified material or chemicals and dump solutions/powders into irrigation system or sprayer machinery; operate and tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, and digital irrigation equipment May be required to perform the following tasks periodically to assist with livestock during the spring and summer months; check animals in fenced areas to assure access to fresh water; monitor available forage and report conditions to employer; assist with roping, branding and vaccinating of calves; assist with loading animals onto trucks.
