- Offer description:
We need seasonal workers to assist with our crop production season for corn, oats, sorghum, soybeans, peanuts, and pecans, completing all duties involved in raising these crops from field preparation through harvest. Our operation frequently double- and triple-crops acres whenever seed can be planted in a timely manner, making summer and fall the most demanding periods due to planting second crops, running pivots, and harvesting pecans. At least 80% of this job involves operating newer cabbed tractors, with the remaining hours spent on routine equipment maintenance, light mechanical repairs, and additional optional tasks such as cleaning equipment and maintaining pecan irrigation systems. Work hours vary: some peak days may require up to 14 hours, while slower periods require fewer hours, with optional overtime available but never required. Job duties include preparing fields for planting; attaching plows, discs, sprayers, harvesters, and other implements using bolts and hand tools; operating tractors, planters, sprayers, seed drills, irrigation systems, and other farm equipment; planting, cultivating, weeding, spraying, and harvesting crops; applying fertilizer and pesticide solutions using hand or machine sprayers; installing, maintaining, and repairing pivot irrigation; loading and unloading crops or materials manually or with conveyors, forklifts, hand trucks, or transfer augers; loading hoppers and conveyors with seed, chemicals, or products using augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks; setting and adjusting machinery controls; mixing and dumping chemicals, powders, and seed into equipment; monitoring machinery for malfunctions; positioning boxes or bags at discharge points and removing full containers; attaching equipment extensions; and hauling crops, supplies, and tools with pickup trucks. Mechanical duties include cleaning and lubricating parts, dismantling defective machines, fabricating metal parts using drill presses or lathes, repairing or replacing components using hand tools, welding equipment, grinders, and saws; adjusting machinery for optimum performance; cleaning and maintaining equipment; disassembling and reassembling machinery; inspecting equipment for damage or wear; installing replacement parts; maintaining repair and maintenance records; and servicing vehicles and farm machinery. Additional responsibilities include mowing pecan orchards; operating pecan sweepers, harvesters, and Monoboom shakers; unloading and bagging pecans at the cleaning facility; and operating excavators and bulldozers to remove stumps and clear land for new fields. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer.
