This job requires a minimum of 3 months of agricultural equipment operation experience. Work will take place on a farm that produces corn, wheat, onion seed, carrot seed, watermelon, pumpkins, turnip, radish seed, sunflower seed and other flower seeds. The lifting requirement for this position is 60 pounds. Worker may: Drive and control equipment to support agricultural activities such as tilling soil; planting, cultivating, and harvesting crop; May perform tasks such as crop baling; May operate stationary equipment to perform post-harvest tasks such as husking, shelling, and threshing; Load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers; Mix specified materials or chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into planter or sprayer machinery; Spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus and weed growth, and diseases, using hand sprayers; Observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions; Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery; Operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, and irrigation equipment; Adjust, repair, and service irrigation pivots and notify supervisors when pivot machinery malfunctions; Push on switch that activates circle sprinkler system; Turn on/off pivots; Learn and master operating a pivot; If a pivot is stuck, get it unstuck and in operating condition; Roll up/unroll pivot hoses; Unplug plugged up nozzles; Unplug plugged up hoses; Replace broken nozzles and hoses; Maintain operation of a pivot at optimum level Workers may also: Remove weeds and remove vegetation from crops using hands or hand tools; Hand harvest vegetables and produce crops; Put vegetables in containers or lays bunches of vegetables along row for collection; Carry containers or armloads of bunched vegetables to collection point. Load vegetables on to trucks. Must speak and understand English.
