Crops/Commodities: nursery stock. Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays): First-line supervision and coordination of agricultural workers. Under the direction of farm management, assign tasks and monitor crop production operations. Train workers in techniques such as planting, cultivating, or harvesting and in use of safety measures. Train workers in safe equipment operation. Take directions from managers on work schedules, production requirements, and conditions of equipment and supplies. Maintain details of personnel actions. Operate employer's electronic time keeping system. First-line supervisors do not have direct hiring or firing authority, but may be asked by farm management to give warnings or take disciplinary action against works for safety or work rule violations. General Farm Labor: Some of the work required from the worker to be performed that is incidental to farming crops listed in this application may be described as performing hand cultivation duties, weeding or hoeing crops, cleaning, repairing seed beds and racks, setting up and moving irrigation pipes and equipment. Tasks the worker must be able to perform include: apply mulch by row mulcher or by hand; apply ground cover to beds using machine or by hand; remove debris from bed preparation process to clean growing area; finish row ends with shovels provided by employer; unload plants by hand from trucks and move plants to planting location by hand; assist in pest controls; install culverts for field drainage; remove and reinstall sprinklers during bed preparation, re-plant missing or unhealthy plants as directed; remove debris, boxes, keep clean growing areas; general nursery maintenance; basic irrigation maintenance; make sandbags, clean and maintain equipment and tools, assist in equipment cleaning, assist in applications by hand or tractor of fertilizers and or/pesticides, apply mouse bait, check and maintain rabbit and mouse traps, cover plant houses with plastic or shade cloth, frost control of sprinklers, frost blanket coverings, or hoop coverings. Worker may also be required to perform the following duties: tilling soil, level land, bed rows, lay/pull drip, connect/disconnect drip, patch/repair plastic, cut and tuck ends of plastic, pull/burn plastic, shovel work, digging/cleaning ditches, set/fix rain birds, fix/adjust mist/irrigation nozzles, punch holes, cut runners, trim leaves (bushes), trees/limbs, thinning/pruning crops, chopping/twisting plants, pick up/burn trash, lay ground cover, pull grass, operate plastic machine (during plastic application), load and unload plastic & drip rolls onto plastic machine, put in drain pipes, paint, mow, make/assemble boxes, clean (equipment and/or facilities), operate equipment, load and unload vehicles. May be necessary to assist in the use of all farm equipment such as tractors, trucks and harvest machinery, etc. Weeding: Workers will remove weeds by use of a hoe/pickaxe from the walkway and remove all weeds growing around plants by hand. Workers will remove weeds from the growing area by raking piles of debris and dispose of it as directed by the farm manager and or/crew supervisor. General Clean-Up of Property for Ag Workers: Workers may be required to perform miscellaneous clean-up and maintenance work on structures utilized in the nursery operation. Such clean-up activities include structure cleaning and repair and general clean-up as required. Workers may be required to perform general construction and/or maintenance on lunch rooms, office buildings, pump houses, retail tagging facilities, chemical storage buildings, and/or build new structures on farm property. Container Tree Maintenance Laborer: Perform manual and/or machine tasks associated with the cultivation and maintenance of container horticulture trees of various sizes (from cuttings in trays to 20 pot plants).
