Crops/Commodities: Nursery Stock (wholesale, field & container, liner grower). Primary duties (performed the majority of workdays): Supervise horticultural workers performing indoor and /or outdoor plant production activities, such as but not limited to graders, sorters and/or packers in an agricultural packing operation. Assign daily work duties, train workers in planting, cultivating, or harvesting techniques. Train workers on safety protocols and safe equipment handling/operation. Perform quality control inspections on products. Observe workers to detect inefficient or unsafe work procedures. Review work to evaluate timeliness and proficiency. Direct or assist with repair of farm equipment or machinery. Prepare reports on production and output in language management can understand. Supervise chemical application and all loading/unloading. Must be bi-lingual in Spanish and English. Train workers on how to operate tractors, skids steers forklifts, and other powered equipment. Responsible for making sure workers adhere to all vehicle rules, such as but not limited to the number of workers per vehicle seats, no open doors while driving, clear windshield, no frost to impair vision. Responsible to maintain that equipment is in good working order if repairs are needed notify management immediately. Make sure all workers are trained on cleanliness habits, including but not limited to vehicles, tractors, buildings, and outside areas. Train workers to apply fertilizer, pesticide, herbicides, fungicides, and other crop protectants adhering to WPS regulations. Lead by example by wearing all protective clothing and eye wear for jobs. Responsible for all crews to have clean water coolers filled and cups at each job site. Responsible for checking on all workers during times of high heat and adhering to the heat policy set fourth in training material. Train workers on irrigation equipment and climate control systems usage and maintenance, both indoor and outdoor. Train workers on quality control standards and product procedures, during all phases of plant life. Train workers on selection of grading pursuant to customer needs. Train workers on proper techniques for pruning, watering and caring for plants. Train workers on hand tools and power equipment tools. Train workers with nursery/farm building/field maintenance repairs and fence repairs. Train workers on planting, potting and propagating plants. Train workers on shipping plant procedures Train workers on winter storage, poly covering techniques, and poly house build, repair, and maintenance. Train workers to build agricultural structures such as cold frame storage houses. Cannot have preferential treatment of H2A or American workers. Needs to stay impartial. Must have computer knowledge or be willing to learn company computer programs. Must record information about plants and plants growth for historical data. Provide coaching and offer feedback to employees to improve performance. Motivate team and foster a positive attitude, even during difficult situations. Resolve employee conflict with professionalism and non-biased. Participate in employee reviews and corrective action when required by management. Check in on all crews daily for efficiency and safety standards. May assign crew leaders for certain job duties. Communicate with management daily/weekly on any employee or work-related changes to job times, employee issues, quality standards or anything out of the ordinary work week. Extra hours may be necessary during busy times to prepare for crew start and end times. Weekend and holiday work hours are required. PTO may be offered at the company's discretion. Must be able to lift 60 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet. Work requires extensive walking. Work required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity, and extreme temperatures.
