Job duties include preparing fields for planting and attaching farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors using bolts and hand tools. Operate tractors, planters, sprayers, seed drills, manure spreaders, combines, irrigation equipment, and other farm machinery. Engage in planting, weeding, spraying, cultivating, and harvesting activities. Fertilize and spray crops, including applying fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus, weeds, and diseases using hand sprayers. Irrigate soil using portable pipes or ditch systems, and maintain ditches, pipes, and pumps. Install, maintain, and repair pivot irrigation systems. Load and unload crops or materials manually or using conveyors, forklifts, transfer augers, or hand trucks. Load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products using forklifts, augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks. Manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on equipment, and observe and listen to machinery during operation to detect malfunctions. Drive farm semi-trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools. Inspect, adjust, and perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment, including irrigation systems. Additional duties include inspecting, examining, and diagnosing mechanical and electrical equipment to locate damage, defects, wear, or malfunctions, and reviewing inspection reports and work orders. Disassemble, dismantle, and clean defective machinery, vehicles, or parts using hand tools and machine tools. Fabricate, repair, or replace mechanical parts or components such as bent or torn sheet metal, pipes, engines, or structural components using hand tools, lathes, drill presses, milling machines, welding equipment, grinders, or saws. Install, repair, and maintain farm machinery, vehicles, irrigation systems, plumbing, and sprinkler systems; tune, overhaul, or adjust engines and equipment to ensure optimal performance. Lubricate, clean, and reassemble equipment following repair, testing operation, and making necessary adjustments. Test mechanical and electrical systems and components for proper functioning, including circuits, engines, and equipment operation. Drive trucks and move large objects to transport tools, equipment, or machinery to and from repair sites. Record details of repairs made, parts used, labor time, and calculate repair costs. Confer with customers or users to assess problems and determine appropriate repairs or modifications. Maintain repair and maintenance records to ensure accurate documentation of work performed. Occasionally assist with general repairs, wash and clean equipment, and clean facilities as needed. Employer may, at its sole discretion, provide pay increases based on longevity or experience.
