Primary duties involve manually plant, cultivate, and harvest apples. Use of hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may also include; tiling soil, applying fertilizers, transplanting, weeding, thinning, pruning apples, applying pesticides, cleaning, packing, and loading harvested products, construct trellises, repair fences and farm buildings, or participate in irrigation activities, including set up and operate irrigation equipment, operate tractors, tractor drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, plant, cultivate, spray and harvest apples, repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment, harvest apples by hand, apply pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers to crops, clear and maintain irrigation ditches. Occasionally they may be required to inform farmers or farm managers of crop progress. Identify plants, pests, and weeds to determine the selection and application of pesticides and fertilizers. As requested, record information about apples, such as pesticide use, yields or costs. Performance indicators that will be monitored: Apples injured by bruising during picking shall not exceed 1% (WNY) for fresh (as defined by USDA grade US Extra Fancy) and 1% (WNY) for processing (as defined by USDA #1 Processing). Productivity must be at least 5 bins (100 bushels) fresh market and/or 7 bins (140 bushels) processing fruit per full workday. Execute pruning cuts pursuant to specific instructions and training received, if any. Workers are expected to work at least the number of days and hours specified. Depending on weather, crop and other conditions, workers may be requested, but not required, to work up to seven days per week and/or on the Sabbath and up to 12 hours per day. Employer will furnish to workers, without cost, all tools and equipment required in the performance of the duties assigned. Workers should report for work with their own suitable work clothing. Field temperatures may range from 0 to 90+ degrees (F) with possible wet conditions. Workers referred against this order must have a minimum of 1 month experience in performing tasks described in this order. Employer plans on staggering the arrival dates of employees into 2 different groups. First arrival date will be on or about 02/15/2026 (depending on weather conditions) and will include up to 30 workers. Second arrival date will be on or about 08/10/2026 (depending on crop progression) and will include up to the remaining 99 workers.
