- Offer description:
We are a cattle and grain farm. Our cattle side consists of 600 cow/calf pairs that are raised in a pasture setting. We have 2,500 cattle in the feedlot that we finish for market. Our grain side of the operation has 1,500 acres of corn that we harvest mostly for feed. The job we are hiring for is a cow/calf assistant. Job duties will include assisting in calving in the spring, starting in mid-February, which lasts until the end of May. These calving duties include monitoring cattle for calving difficulties and health problems. As well as feeding, bedding, and cleaning the pens of the cattle. Cows are confined during this period and brought in from pastures for calving. While they are confined intensive care and manual feeding is needed. At the end of calving, the cow/calf pairs are moved to pasture, where the employee will check the cattle. Job duties through the summer will include checking health/welfare of the cattle. Maintaining perimeter fence to keep livestock in and predators out. Checking water levels and providing mineral for the cattle. Administering veterinary care as needed, including administering vaccinations. Additionally weed control to maximize feed value. In the fall, the employee will assist with preconditioning calves and cows. Sorting the calves to be sold, and the cows to be loaded to go to another site for winter care. Additional time would be spent harvesting bedding and feed supply for the next spring when the cows return to calve again. Greg Smith Farms commits to providing hours worked bonus. The hours worked bonus is for all employees, and would be paid at the end of each quarter. (March 31, June 30, Sept 30, Dec 31.) The amount would be for 7.7% of their gross income for that quarter (gross payment). Greg Smith Farms commits to providing Loyalty bonus. The loyalty bonus is for all employees as well. The amount would be $100 for each year worked (minimum 40 hours worked for a year), awarded on December 15th of each year. Each subsequent year would be eligible for the full $100 for each year. Reminders of these bonuses will be issued via the following. 1. Posting of the bonus information and an examples it, by our general employee information bulletin area (by the time clock). 2. By the manager notifying all employees of the bonus via text message, phone call, or in person conversation. 3. By discussion with all employees at one of our employee communication meetings.
