Operate 300-400 horsepower tractors and commonly used farm implements/attachments to eliminate ruts and make rows within fields. Plant cash crops and cover crops – Operate 300-400 horsepower tractors and planters to plant corn, cotton, soybeans, and a variety of winter cover crops. Cash crops are planted from March – June. Cover crops are planted from August – November. Treat seed – Open conventional bags, bulk bags, and bulk boxes of seed to load in seed treating machine. Operate forklift to handle bulk seed. Mix fertilizer and other crop treatments – Mix bulk fertilizer and various crop protection ingredients in 1,600 gallon mixing vats before application. Haul finished products to application machinery with one-ton trucks and nurse trailers. Application – Apply fertilizer and other crop protection ingredients using tractors, implements, and self-propelled sprayers. Irrigation – Set up mobile engines (power units) to power irrigation wells. Lay out poly pipe and “hard pipe” in furrow irrigated fields to irrigate crops. Service and repair pivot irrigation systems and power units to irrigate crops. Dismantle irrigation systems and collect poly pipe and “hard pipe” before crops are harvested. Equipment maintenance – Preform recommended maintenance on all equipment (change oil, oil filters, fuel filters, air filters, clean radiators, and change tires on all equipment when necessary). Repair tractors, implements, self-propelled sprayers, trucks, trailers, power units, pumps, and plumbing systems. Repair machinery and equipment using shop tools. Organize parts inventory and maintain a clean and organized working environment. Ground maintenance – Maintain roads, ditches, drainage pipes, and yards around shop premises. Keep grounds clear of trash or other debris that would prevent a safe working environment. Use lawn mowers, weed eaters, and other grass cutting equipment to maintain grass roadways and other infrastructure. Keep ditches clear of obstructions and silt using excavators, backhoes. Harvest – Operate 300-400 horsepower tractors, grain carts, heavy trucks, or other equipment involved with gathering cash crops. Logistics – Load semi-trucks to get grain from harvested fields to on-farm storage or other intermediate storage locations. Unload grain out of semi-trucks at on-farm storage. Prepare on-farm storage to hold grain (assemble and disassemble air pipes in flat storage, assemble prefabricated retaining walls, operate and maintain grain conveying systems). Load semi-trucks out of on-farm storage using grain conveying equipment and 250 horsepower wheel loader. Stage round bales of cotton on field borders. Operate 250 horsepower wheel loader to load round bales on semi-truck.
