- Offer description:
This position involves loading and unloading crops or containers of materials manually or with the use of conveyors, hand trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers. The role includes mixing specified materials or chemicals and loading them into planters or sprayers, as well as applying fertilizer or pesticide solutions using hand sprayers to control insects, fungus, weeds, and crop diseases. The operator will observe and listen to machinery during operation to detect malfunctions and will manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust machine mechanisms. Responsibilities also include operating and tending to farm equipment such as tractors, combines, and irrigation systems, maintaining machinery, and notifying supervisors of any mechanical issues. Additional duties involve attaching implements like plows, disks, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors using bolts and hand tools; loading hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines using various tools and equipment; and supervising work crews engaged in planting, weeding, and harvesting tasks. The operator will also drive towed machines such as seed drills and manure spreaders for planting, fertilizing, dusting, and spraying crops; weigh crop-filled containers and record relevant information; drive trucks to transport crops, tools, and workers; irrigate fields using portable pipes or ditch systems; and maintain irrigation equipment. The role requires operating farm machinery to plant, cultivate, harvest, and store grain crops, including tilling soil and operating self-propelled combines and other harvesting equipment. During the spring and harvest seasons, employees should expect increased workloads and extended working hours to meet seasonal demands.
