Lambing Duties: The primary responsibility of this position is to assist with lambing and overall livestock care, including monitoring and segregating ewes after birthing, providing comprehensive care for newborn lambs such as record keeping, administering vaccinations, castration, tail docking, ear tagging, warming hypothermic lambs, bottle feeding orphaned lambs, and administering minerals and supplements, all while ensuring the general health and well-being of the ewe and lamb flock, and feeding and watering animals daily, including provision of grain and hay twice per day. Daily care and feeding of livestock guardian dogs herding dogs is necessary. Farm Operational Duties: Additionally, the role involves farm operations and equipment use, including operating a skid steer, tractor, and other farm equipment as needed (e.g., rotary cutter), performing snow plowing with a truck around barns and farm property during winter, setting up barn configurations and relocating animals as needed based on seasonal or management requirements, and cleaning and maintaining barns and animal housing areas. Pasture management and maintenance duties include collecting and processing fallen logs, cutting, splitting (requiring safe chainsaw operation), and stacking firewood, conducting fence inspections and repairs as needed, mowing fields after grazing periods, assisting with rotational grazing of flocks, and assisting with the disposal or composting of deceased livestock, including safe use of equipment for burial. Marketing and Product Delivery: Responsibilities involve transporting and selling farm products at local markets, including setup and staffing of vendor booths, and assisting with on-farm slaughter and processing of lambs, including transport to slaughterhouses using farm vehicles. Only Elly's Acres products will be handled during any "marketing, product delivery, or transporting" activities. Maple Syrup Production: The job duties entail installing and maintaining sap lines and vacuum pumps, tapping trees, collecting sap, and operating reverse osmosis systems and evaporators for syrup production. Additional Responsibilities: Care for a small poultry flock, possessing a valid driver’s license and being able to operate farm vehicles safely, working shifts alone without supervision the majority of the time, and prioritizing jobs as conditions change on a shift-to-shift basis.
