- Offer description:
Job duties for Rooker Training Stable's breeding operations include the breeding, foaling, weaning, caring, and raising of the breeding stock. January through April job duties focus on breeding and foaling seasons. Work then transitions to caring for foals, monitoring mares that were bred, and handling the foals. After the summer, work moves to the weaning process, where mares and foals are separated. The weaning process is completed at the end of October, which completes the busy season of the breeding operations. Workers will assist in the breeding and raising of horses at stable with approximately 75 horses in the breeding/young horses. Assist in breeding operations: caring for mares, including monitoring health of mares through all stages of pregnancy, monitoring for breeding readiness, monitoring for signs of pregnancy, administering medicine as instructed, and birthing mares; handling and transporting breeding stock to local breeding clinics for insemination as needed; assisting veterinarian during breeding and foaling processes, including insemination of mares, pregnancy checks, ultrasounds, emergency health situations, and administering vaccinations and medications; exercising and caring for stallions to maintain conditioning and breeding readiness; and collecting and shipping semen, with supervision from management. Assist in raising young stock: caring for foals; handling young stock for initial handling, including halter breaking, and leading; and weaning mares and foals at appropriate intervals. Assist in general care for breeding/young stock: monitoring and maintaining adequate feed and water levels for breeding/young stock housed inside and outside; daily monitoring of general health of all breeding/young stock; assisting farrier with handling breeding/young stock for routine farrier work; maintain and repair stable grounds used for breeding/young stock.
