- Offer description:
Livestock Nutrition Technician Duties: Job duties involve performing operations on feed slabs—durable, concrete surfaces where dairy cows are fed supplemental rations. This position focuses on increasing feeding efficiency, supporting herd health, and managing environmental concerns related to manure runoff, especially during wet weather conditions. The manager maintains the feed pad’s solid and stable surface and ensures the proper functioning of integrated or removable feed bunks and separate water troughs. Duties include helping with feeding by placing feed on hard surfaces to avoid waste, assisting with giving hay or other feed when pasture is low, and moving animals as needed to keep pastures from being overused. Feeding information and animal movement schedules will be provided to employees by owners or management personnel. The position also performs cleaning and maintenance of the feed pad’s sloped surface and runoff systems to ensure manure effluent flows correctly into collection sumps, facilitating effective manure collection and nutrient management. This includes handling manure to support environmental stewardship and reuse of nutrients as fertilizer. The role contributes to herd comfort and stress reduction by providing a clean, stable feeding environment and managing shelters when available to protect animals from extreme weather. For calendar year 2026 in WI, the Adverse Effect Wage Rate is $13.29 per hour for Skill Level I positions. This rate applies equally to all U.S. workers in corresponding employment. H-2A workers who are provided no-cost housing may receive the adjusted wage rate of $12.00 per hour, which includes the $1.29 per-hour housing credit established by the U.S. Department of Labor.
