- Offer description:
We need seasonal employees to assist with our calving season. Our calving season starts in December and ends in February. We purchase calves in the late fall to feed in our backgrounding feedlot through the winter. When they reach around 800 pounds, they are sold to a finishing lot, which can vary between January and February depending on the size of the cattle. We only feed one round of calves per year, so the rest of the year there are no calves in the feedlot to take care of. During the winter months, we need someone to operate a feed truck and to make sure water is available and not frozen. Job duties include feeding and watering livestock; monitoring food and water supplies; mixing feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions; ordering and distributing feed using trucks, tractors, or other equipment; examining animals to detect illness, injury, disease, or abnormal weight gain; providing medical treatment, administering vaccinations or medications, or arranging for veterinary care; segregating, marking, and identifying livestock for ownership, grade, or condition using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos; and inspecting, maintaining, and repairing equipment, machinery, pens, yards, fences, and buildings. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion, Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.
