- Offer description:
We need seasonal employees to assist with our calving season. Our calving season starts in December and ends in March. During this calving season, cattle are confined for calving and need daily care and feeding. After the season ends, no daily care is needed. Cattle duties are only needed in this time frame due to our scheduled calving times for our cattle. Our operation is a seasonal cow-calf operation. We currently have a herd of 27. During this time, we perform intensive tasks related to calving, feeding, branding, and pasture rotation. These tasks are time-sensitive and require additional labor. Specifically, seasonal labor is needed for: calving season care (monitoring births, assisting with difficult deliveries, and ensuring calf health), branding and tagging, rotational grazing (moving herds regularly between pastures), maintain and repair fencing, water system maintenance, and feeding and mineral supplementation on range or pasture. During the non-H-2A months there is no calving, branding, or regular pasture movement, and day-to-day tasks are significantly reduced. Job duties will include: clean stalls, pens, and equipment using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps;, trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals; examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics such as rate of weight gain; feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies; herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures; inspect, maintain, and repair equipment, machinery, buildings, pens, and yards; mark livestock to identify ownership and grade using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos; order food for animals and arrange for its delivery; patrol grazing lands on horseback or using all-terrain vehicles; perform duties related to livestock reproduction such as breeding animals within appropriate timeframes, performing artificial inseminations, and helping with animal births; segregate animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition; shift animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food; spray livestock with disinfectants and insecticides or dip or bathe animals; care for animals; clean equipment or facilities; maintain inventories of materials, equipment, or products; operate farming equipment. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion., Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.
