Planting Melons: Sow melon seeds 1 inch deep in rows or in hills spaced 6 feet apart. After 2 weeks, thin to 2 plants per hill before moving vines.Grove Clean-up: Workers may need to remove debris, boxes, and discarded fruit from fields to clean the growing area. They may also repair or replace irrigation equipment and maintain farm equipment as directed by their supervisor. Duties vary by assignment.Melon Harvest and Maintenance: Under supervisor instructions, workers harvest and maintain watermelons by hand-cutting with tools such as shears and knives. They clean, load, and unload harvested melons, move equipment, and may operate forklifts, perform mechanic repairs tasks. Grading and sorting are then performed, considering factors like color, species, length, width, appearance, texture, and quality to ensure correct processing. Acceptable products are placed in containers by grade and then weighed, counted, and marked. Workers inspect containers and products to meet sorting specifications and maintain clean work areas. Tasks require prolonged bending, reaching, and lifting up to 80 lbs. Some field drivers will move the buses to unloading dock Plastic Removal: Workers pull all plastic and drip tape from plant beds or fields, gather them at field ends, and repeat this throughout the field. Plastic is collected into bales, loaded onto trucks, and unloaded at designated drop-off points. Vegetable Harvesting and packing will be preformed in field : Workers will harvest various vegetables , including summer and winter squash and other crops, by shoveling, hauling, spreading manure, digging, and manually planting, cultivating, and loading. Field-packing vegetables is required. Tools used include shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Tasks may also involve applying fertilizers, transplanting, weeding, raking, cleaning around sheds, thinning, pruning, cleaning, grading, and packing harvested products, operating forklifts, assisting with repairs, and pulling weeds. Field Preparation: Tractor drivers install and maintain irrigation systems, lay water lines, move irrigation pipes, and dig and maintain ditches. They install or remove levee gates and apply crop protectants as required. Fertilizers and plant growth chemicals are applied at appropriate times depending on crop and climate. All equipment must be operated safely to protect people, products, and property. Work pay follows the highest of the adverse effect wage rate, prevailing rate, minimum wage, or as per special procedures. Shuttle driver will pick up workers , take them to worksite ,field walk, and drive workers back to their housing. They will also assist with timekeeping ,fill water jugs with drinking water for the workers in the morning, and ensure field sanitation measures are maintained through the day . They are required to live in the housing provided by the employer and take workers once a week to cash checks and to the grocery store.Volunteer Bus Drivers: Drivers must have a valid CDL class B with passenger endorsement.A copy of the work contract or a copy of the ETA 790 in lieu of a work contract, and any modifications , will be provided to the worker on the day the work commences. The employer will provide the tools necessary to perform the described job duties.
