We need a seasonal employee to assist with our winter calving operation. Our calving season starts in December and runs until March 1. During this time cattle are confined for calving and needs to be fed and cared for daily as well as assistance needs to be provided to help with birthing and deliveries. Calving cows is usually only a short period of time but is labor intensive. After calving is done, no further care is needed since they are released to pastures. Job duties will include: clean stalls, pens, and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps, drive trucks, tractors, and other equipment to distribute feed to animals, examine animals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain, feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies, herd livestock to pastures for grazing or to scales, trucks, or other enclosures, mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions, move equipment, or livestock from one location to another, manually or using trucks or carts, order food for animals, and arrange for its delivery, patrol grazing lands on horseback or using all-terrain vehicles, provide medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations, or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment, shift animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food, care for animals, clean equipment or facilities, treat animal injuries or illnesses. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion. Employer will pay additional money to anyone who returns for a subsequent season.
