Duties related to cattle support during peak calving and feeding periods, including assisting with calving, monitoring newborn calves, vaccinating, administering vaccinations and daily medications, daily feeding and watering only while cattle are in winter pastures and calving pens/barns, cleaning pens, mending fences, moving cattle to/from pastures, and performing general farm and equipment maintenance.The worker(s) will be required to drive trucks and other equipment to distribute feed to cattle that have been moved in for winter feeding. Operate tractor to distribute feed for cattle. Lift and carry hay bales weighing up to 100 pounds; Physically break ice with shovel and/or spud bar in order to keep water supply open for livestock; ride horse and/or 4-wheeler to move cows to various pastures feed livestock supplementary rations and mineral blocks with feeding equipment. The worker(s) may be required to operate tractor to move snow in order to keep areas open for movement of workers, equipment and livestock. Operate ranch equipment and perform minor repairs and maintenance. Calving cow/calf operation: Calving begins in February. During this season, worker will attend to cows and calves, assist with the calving process, and set up and clean calving shelters to protect cows and calves from the elements. General farm work will include making minor mechanical adjustments/repairs on farm machinery; repair/replace fencing and farm structures; perform general cleanup of farm acreage; drive, load/unload trucks. Most duties are performed out of doors, and may entail exposure to heat, cold, dust, rain, snow and other environmental conditions common in fields. Worker must crouch, bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds. Drivers License Required.
