Primary Duties by Month: December: Clearing land following summer crops and preparing 2,000 additional acres that were not planted last year because of limited labor availability. January: Repairing equipment, preparing land for new crops, and performing general farm repairs (e.g., Irrigation lines, well pumps, fences). February: Continue prepping land and getting seed beds ready for planting. March: Finish seed beds for planting, begin planting of new crops. April: Plant remaining fields and begin spraying and fertilizing. GENERAL FARM LABOR DUTIES: (I have word-smithed to give it a different look and feel) • Workers will prepare and maintain land by planting, irrigating, fertilizing, spraying, cultivating, harvesting, and transporting crops to the elevator or storage area. • Workers prepare, maintain, irrigate, fertilize, spray, cultivate, harvest, and transport crops to the elevator. The worker will perform hand cultivation tasks, seeding, bedding and potting plants, weeding or hoeing, cleaning and repairing farm buildings, pallets, seed beds, racks, grounds, mowing, weed eating, operating tractors/farm equipment, sprayers, incidental crop set up, moving irrigation pipes and equipment, gardening, weeding and hand-harvesting, etc. • The equipment that workers may be required to operate includes, but is not limited to, tractors with various implements, equipment that utilizes GPS and auto-guidance systems, sprayers, combines, back-hoes, mowers, and track-hoes. Non CDL farm trucks will be loaded with agricultural products such as inputs, fertilizer, topsoil, harvested crops, etc., and driven on the farm to storage facilities such as elevators, bins, silos, piles/bags in close proximity to the farm. • Job also requires participating in irrigation activities, including laying pipes, walking the length of irrigation pipe to puncture it at set intervals, setting up and operating irrigation equipment, clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches, operating well motors, operating and maintaining pivots, and draining fields. water from fields, and monitoring fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops; building, installing and maintaining levees, installing and removing levy gates and putting in spillways; receiving crop for drying and storage at grain storage facility; disposing of spoiled grain; transport field grain to grain bins; loading and unloading grain into trucks while keeping grain level; operating augers and grain conveying equipment; monitoring grain moisture levels; preparing scale tickets; and shoveling grain; loading seed into planters; properly mixing chemicals; loading chemicals into sprayers; loading and transporting fertilizer on the farm; changing combine cutting • heads; rouging fields and using hand tools to remove undesirable plant varieties, trash, and other objects from fields; • Performing general maintenance, repairs and/or clean-up of storage sheds, pivot points, buildings, property borders, barns and all farm equipment; ensuring operational areas are organized and well maintained; using hand tools and equipment to attach implements, repair, clean and maintain farm vehicles, machinery and specialized machinery and agricultural equipment; regularly servicing equipment; changing oil; and performing landscaping duties around the worksite as needed such as weed eating, trimming bushes, trimming trees, and mowing grass when needed. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties and/or locations often and engage in various general functions. • Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. Physical Requirements: Workers may be required to handle products weighing up to 75 pounds and lift them to a height of 5 feet.
