- Offer description:
On farms and feed mill facilities, workers will be responsible for feed and equipment maintenance and operation of farm equipment as assigned. Workers will perform preventive and routine maintenance on hauling and feed mill equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation, especially during cold and inclement weather. Duties include inspecting and maintaining vehicles (tractors, semis, trailers), grain storage systems (augers, legs, drags, sweep augers), and feed mill systems (air valves, doors, heaters). Employees will ensure feed handling areas are kept clear of ice and snow and that rodent control measures are properly maintained to prevent contamination. Workers will also assist with snow removal at farm sites to ensure access to feed and barn facilities during winter conditions. Operating farm equipment may be required, including trucks, tractors, skid steers, UTVs, pay loaders, manure spreaders, and construction equipment. Workers must be trained and certified (as applicable) to operate machinery per the manufacturer’s manual and OSHA safety standards. Responsibilities include checking and maintaining all fluid levels, using only recommended fluids, greasing equipment, and allowing adequate warm-up time for machinery prior to use. Employees will be expected to monitor weather conditions to adjust hauling and delivery schedules accordingly and perform other duties as assigned by management. Workers must keep all work areas clean, organized, and safe at all times. Employees are required to follow strict biosecurity standards and herd health policies, including no contact with outside swine, adherence to downtime requirements set by PIC (Pig Improvement Company), and maintaining the cleanliness of all work areas and equipment. During cold and winter weather, perform preventive maintenance on driving and grain storage equipment—such as tractors, semis, augers, and sweep augers—ensuring all machinery is ready, safe, and properly greased. Keep feed handling areas, control rooms, and mixing spaces clear of ice and snow, clean all feed mill doors and property areas for safety, and maintain fluid levels with only recommended fluids. Ensure heaters function and equipment is plugged in as needed, check and clean rodent boxes to prevent contamination, and assist with snow removal to maintain access to livestock and barns. Monitor forecasts to adjust delivery and pickup schedules, be trained and certified on all equipment, and understand that improper maintenance or use of non-recommended fluids can void warranties. Perform other duties as assigned.
