- Offer description:
The farm division of Commercial Industrial Corporation manages over 15,000 acres in central Florida. On some of this property, cereal crops such as oats, hay, sorghum, millet, and rye that belong to the grass family Poaceae or Gramineae are grown and harvested. Our crops have different planting/harvesting seasons that mainly run from November to August. With so much property, there is a tremendous amount of preparation, managing, and maintenance involved such as disking, seeding/planting, fertilizing/spraying, operating, and maintaining pivots, water lines, lots of mowing, and maintaining and building fence lines. Maintaining the farm equipment and implements is a necessity in our operation. September/October are not as busy as the other 10 months for our operation. Job duties will include: prepare fields for planting; attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors using bolts and hand tools; operate tractors, planters, sprayers, seed drills, manure spreaders, and irrigation equipment; plant trees; engage in planting, weeding, spraying, and/or harvesting activities; fertilize, dust, and spray crops; spray fertilizer or pesticide solutions to control insects, fungus, weed growth, and diseases using hand sprayers; irrigate soil using portable pipes or ditch systems, and maintain ditches, pipes, and pumps; install, maintain, and repair pivot irrigation systems; load and unload crops or materials manually or using conveyors, hand trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers; load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks; manipulate controls to set, activate, and adjust mechanisms on machinery; mix specified materials or chemicals, and dump solutions, powders, or seeds into machinery; observe and listen to machinery operation to detect equipment malfunctions; position boxes or attach bags at discharge ends of machinery to catch products, removing and closing full containers; walk beside or ride on planting machines while inserting plants in planter mechanisms at specified intervals; attach equipment extensions or accessories; operate equipment to harvest crops; complete maintenance and repairs on irrigation equipment; drive trucks to haul crops and complete routine maintenance and repairs on equipment.
