This job order is for an agricultural technician or assistant grower. They will work under the supervision of the grower. Workers will perform various duties as outlined below to assist the grower with gathering materials, performing tests, and training farm laborers and/or other workers in the proper techs of growing, tending to and harvesting the employer nursery crop. As directed by the grower workers will perform the following duties: • Collect crop samples • Examine crop specimens to determine the presence of diseases or other problems. • Set up laboratory or field equipment as required for site testing • Supervise or train agricultural technicians or farm laborers. • Conduct studies of nitrogen or alternative fertilizer application methods, quantities, or timing to ensure satisfaction of crop needs and minimization of leaching, runoff, or denitrification • Prepare laboratory samples for analysis, following proper protocols to ensure that they will be stored, prepared, and disposed of efficiently and effectively. • Prepare data summaries, reports, or analyses that include results, charts, or graphs to document research findings and results. • Supervise pest or weed control operations, including locating and identifying pests or weeds, selecting chemicals and application methods, or scheduling application. • Conduct insect or plant disease surveys. • Perform general nursery duties, such as propagating standard varieties of plant materials, collecting and germinating seeds, maintaining cuttings of plants, or controlling environmental conditions • Record environmental data from field samples of soil, air, water, or pests to monitor the effectiveness of integrated pest management (IPM) practices • Transplant trees, vegetables, or horticultural plants. • Review crop schedules, growing protocols and best practices to grow on specs and standards. • Growing plugs, rooted cuttings, potted plants, field crops and maintenance of plants, as instructed by the grower or senior grower while being focus in meeting spec and standards. • Providing assistance to Growers in the maintenance of crops. • Control watering and irrigation of crops; Check on regular basis mist, fog, drips and flood systems (PRIVA). • Spraying, fogging and bio applications to prevent and control pests and diseases on crops . • Monitor and test fertilizer solutions and media PH, EC and tank sampling and fertilizer mixing • Implement Integrated Pest Management practices directed by Head Grower. • Maintaining and cleaning underground tanks, nozzles on booms and mist lines and hand disinfectants • Continuously learning new plant varieties and the proper handling to ensure optimum growing conditions. • Monitor daily activities to determine opportunities for improvement in productivity, efficiency and quality. • Openly and honestly communicate with all employees to build trust and effective teamwork as well as encourage employee involvement to achieve shared organizational objectives. • Other duties assigned by Head Grower.
