- Offer description:
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Corn hand harvesting includes hand-picking corn, bundling harvest bags, loading dryer boxes, placing bundles of harvested material from the fields, and removing tassel bags or other used supplies from the fields, including shoot bags. Workers will also sort harvest bundles for shelling hubs and lay out harvested material in tubs for selection. To perform this type of work, workers must be able to work outside for at least six hours a day in all kinds of weather and possess the requisite strength and endurance, working quickly and skillfully with their hands. The employer will provide the necessary tools (if applicable) to perform the described job without charge to the worker. However, the employer may charge the worker for reasonable costs related to the worker’s refusal or negligent failure to return the tools, or for willful damage or destruction of the tools. Soy harvest duties include harvesting soy plant pods or plants by hand, bundling rows together, and carry material to threshers, trailers, and combines. Workers may also be required to rogue off-type plants and sample harvested material for lab submission. Harvested material must then be placed into designated storage and processing areas. Plot maintenance tasks include hand-pulling and hoeing weeds, rogueing off-type plants from both corn and soy fields, placing stakes, and attaching row tags. Soy threshing involves operating single-plant threshers and bulk threshers, moving processed inventory, and counting seeds for winter planting. In husk/sort duties, corn flows over husking beds which remove the husk. Once the corn is husked, it is added to sorting tables where workers check for any remaining husk on the ears. Workers will perform quality checks and remove corn that is discolored, abnormal, or moldy from the sorting table. Tissue sampling consists of taking plant material samples using a sampling tool and placing them in sampling containers. Personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and earplugs, is required and provided by the employer. Other requirements: Workers seeking employment under this job order must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. The employer retains the right to discharge any obviously unqualified worker, malingerer, or recalcitrant worker who is physically able to complete the work but does not demonstrate a willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium-quality product, or for any other lawful reason.
