All job duties are closely and directly related to the production of livestock. Perform any combination of the following tasks attending to livestock: adhere to safety and animal handling procedures dictated by the employer; administer medication as needed; apply medications to cuts and bruises; assist feed mill operators with mixing feed and delivering to feed bunks; assist in the maintenance of tools, equipment and handling facilities necessary to production; assist livestock manager in monitoring pen inventories; assist with castration of livestock; assist with loading and unloading livestock according to shipping schedules; assist with the vaccination of livestock by herding into corrals and/or stalls or manually restraining animals; brand, tag, clip or otherwise mark young animals for identification purposes; break ice over frozen water sources; clean and disinfect livestock corrals, pens and handling facilities; count and load livestock onto trailers to send off to packing plant; deliver feed and supplements to livestock and operate the appropriate equipment required to ensure adequate provision of both; evaluate and adjust feed rations for livestock according to body condition and season of production; examine animals to detect diseases and injuries; handle livestock using low stress methods; hold horses for farriers and veterinarians; identify and administer appropriate medication for various health issues such as internal parasites, respiratory issues, injuries, etc.; inspect and clean livestock waterers; lift and stack bales of hay and sacks of grain and mineral onto a feed truck or wagon; maintain/clean and fill water troughs and buckets; mix and feed specific feed rations to cattle; monitor feed bunks, empty and clean when needed; move livestock to appropriate grazing areas to avoid undue stress on livestock; operate and tend equipment such as pickups, 4-wheelers, tractors, tub grinders and skid steers trailers (livestock, utility and flatbed); report to employer dehydration & other indicators of deterioration in animal body condition/behavioral changes indicating malnutrition or disease; segregate animals according to weight, age, color, and physical condition; Walk pens and check feed and water levels .
