All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A. Box 3 & 4. Workers will be required to press apples into cider and pack apples in a packing house. Workers must be able to complete the tasks required to press and bottle apple cider. Cider making duties may include, set up and operation of cider press, performing all tasks involved in the process, as well as clean up, and store after pressing. Tasks include forklift operation to load bulk bins with apples on to processing equipment, operation of apple grinder and distribution of and lining of apple mash onto press racks. Operation of apple press, transfer pumps and manual bottling of cider in cider jugs. Cleaning of the equipment is required after each cider run, including washing down equipment with water and cleaning out of tanks with warm soapy water. Cleaning equipment also entails the use of a pressure washer to wash equipment and floors. Workers will pack apples according to the quality and method of the employer. Workers will sort the apples according to size, color, and grade before packing; line boxes, cartons or crates with treated paper or cardboard; place apples in containers for storage or shipment; and weigh, stamp grade, brand, and date of packing on container. Workers may operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Workers will perform tasks related to the planting, cultivating, and harvesting of diversified ground crops. Use tools such as but not limited to shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, hand saws, and knives. Workers may use tools to work on orchard buildings such as saws, hammers, drills, powered screwdrivers. Workers may be asked to: drive, operate, adjust, and maintain farm machines; prepare soil for planting; perform manual tasks like pruning, weeding, and thinning; drive tractor for spraying pesticides and mowing. Workers will also perform general orchard tasks including but not limited to pruning and planting apples trees, repairing apple storage bins, repairing fences, repairing trellises, as well as performing other general farm-related maintenance duties as the need arises. Workers must have the knowledge and ability to prune, thin and train apple trees, and be willing to work in varied weather conditions. The work assigned will be physically demanding, bending, stooping and kneeling for long periods of time will be required. Workers must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds frequently. Workers must be able to handle and climb a 20-foot ladder repetitively while carrying an apple picking bucket which is harnessed over the workers shoulders to hand pick apples. Other duties will include driving a tractor and picking up brushes from the orchard floor, as well as performing other farm-related duties as the need arises. Workers must be available to work 7-hour shifts Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm. Workers will be given a 30-minute lunch break which is staggered between 11am - 1pm as decided by the workers. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and return to work after their 30 minutes are up, with additional morning and afternoon breaks of 15 minutes. The daily or weekly work schedules may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, orchard conditions, and other factors. Employers will notify workers of any change to the schedule.
