Workers will perform manual labor to plant, cultivate, maintain, and harvest arugula grown under plastic canopy structures in open field conditions. Field Preparation and Planting: Till soil to prepare for planting and after harvest. Use hand tools such as shovels, tampers, pruning hooks, machetes, hoes, and knives. Seed and transplant arugula as directed. Operate farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment including tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plant, maintain, and harvest crops. Plastic Canopy Maintenance: Repair and maintain canopy structures and replace plastic covering the canopy which is used to protect crops from excessive sunlight and weather exposure. Secure plastic to frames using stakes, sandbags, clamps, and other materials. Lay, tuck, remove, and clean plastic coverings of debris. Replace damaged or worn plastic as needed. Crop Maintenance: Manually pull weeds, mow, weed-eat, and remove used stakes and string. Stake, string, tie, prune, sucker, thin, and train crops under supervisor guidance. Remove or clean plant debris or vines from the ground or trellises. Clear and maintain fields and irrigation ditches. Participate in irrigation activities, including setting up, repairing, operating, and maintaining drip and other irrigation equipment. Harvesting: Harvest arugula by hand or machinery, selecting produce based on size, color, texture, maturity, and quality. Work alongside tractors and trailers moving through fields during harvest. Handle produce carefully to avoid breaking skins, bruising, dropping, or leaving appropriate product on plants. Count and check harvested produce in the field. Discard and destroy produce exposed to blood or showing signs of pest activity, fecal contamination, disease, physical damage, or that has been dropped on the ground. Post-Harvest: Sanitize buckets, tools, equipment, and harvesting containers regularly to prevent contamination. Perform minimal maintenance tasks to deter wildlife from fields for sanitary purposes. General Requirements: Follow all sanitation, food safety, and hygiene protocols strictly. Work efficiently, follow verbal instructions, and meet productivity standards. Report to the designated worksite on time each day. Be available for the entire employment period from September 1, 2025, through May 31, 2026. Employer may request, but not require, overtime or work on Sabbath or federal holidays. Work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect ability to perform duties. Workers are responsible for following the recommendations of supervisors in performing these tasks. Equipment and tools: The following items will be provided to the employee as necessary to do work assigned. There will be no charge for items given to the employee the first time. Any worn out or damaged items must be returned to the farm manager, and they will be replaced at no charge to the employee (all replacements are limited). Apron, Badge, Knee Boots, Hip Boots, Knives, Rubber Gloves, Raincoat, Cutting Glove Any items lost or abused will be charged to the employee at the actual purchase cost to the company. Any items charged to the employee will be deducted from employee's paycheck. Job Location - The workers will work at a field that is located 17825 79th Street, Fellsmere, FL or 7798 County Road 512, Fellsmere, FL 32948. B & W Quality Growers owns 100% of the product packed, grown and harvested by B & W Quality Growers, LLC. It is estimated that 10% of the time will be spent packing, 35% growing and 65% harvesting the products.
