Duties may vary from time to time and may include all the following job specifications: Construction Laborer will perform the activities to fix worker housing under the direction of the housing manager. The position follows company policies and adheres to all safety practices and requirements. The position ensures clean work areas that are free of objects that may cause accidents. Will assist the housing manager in housing maintenance and house repairs for workers housing. Will be required to operate power tools. Keep tools assigned clean. Follow safety guidelines provided by the manager. Assist with plumbing, electric, plywood, carpentry and other repairs. Clean equipment and facilities. May need to drive a vehicle to get to the different sites. May be assigned to clean sewer drainpipes, hands-on fixing and cleaning septic tanks to ensure proper flow. May be assigned to build fences for the farms. Work entails exposure to soil, plants, and materials. Employer will comply with the personal protective equipment when needed and restrictions for the use of chemicals. Workers are required to comply with all applicable worker protection standards as communicated by Supervisors. Workers must be able to listen to, and follow verbal instructions by Supervisors and understand the purpose of the required posters that are in place. Reliable and dependable - Able to follow basic verbal and/or written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues. Ability to work overtime, as required by the job. Ability to obtain or possess a Driver’s License. Workers who are assigned to drive company vehicles requiring a driver’s license will receive reimbursement by receipt of proof of payment. 6 months of verifiable experience in maintenance activities such as carpentry, plumbing or electrical activities in new and old housing facilities. The employee will adhere to the progressive discipline policy as described in the handbook. Employees will sign an arbitration agreement. Employees may be selected to do safety walk throughs to identify any hazards as part of the injury and illness prevention program. Will be required to travel from one housing complex to other. Environmental Conditions - Labor most of the time conducted outdoors in variable weather conditions with large temperature fluctuations (50 to 90 degrees). Exposure to Bees, Wasps, Snakes, Chemicals, Pesticides, etc. Work Hours - Hours vary but generally a full day is from 6-10 hours per day, 6 days per week during season. The season generally lasts year-round. Tools, Equipment Used - Worker can use gloves, serrated sickle, safety glasses, pickaxe, sickle cover, dust mask and helmet (as required), shovel, and hoe, lawn mower, hand tools, power tools. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL / MENTAL / ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Thinking: using logic and reasoning while doing the job duties. Visual: visually being aware of one’s surroundings. Talking: talking to others to convey information effectively. Hearing Up: to sounds and instructions. Noise: Exposure moderate to loud noise levels. Standing 100% of the workday is spent on one’s feet. Worker rarely stands in one place. Walking: combination of walking as necessary in most job activities. Lifting and Carrying Up: Lifting and carrying is required to carry tubes that weigh about 100 lbs. Stooping and Bending Intermittent throughout the day. Squatting or Kneeling As needed. Sitting Worker rarely sits with the exception of breaks and lunches. Limb Use and Movement constantly using both hands to complete day-to-day job activities. Fine Motor Skills (Fingers, Hands, Wrist): repetitive hand, wrist and finger movements are required for all job activities. Pushing: As needed. Pulling As required. Reaching and Stretching.
