- Offer description:
James Edwards is a commercial grain, hay, and livestock farming operation located in southeastern South Dakota, which has a need for additional temporary farmworkers between the months of September and June. Employees are needed to start in early September to perform preparation work, followed closely by the operation of farming equipment to harvest crops (operating combine & running grain cart), transport cow and calves off pasture, wean and work calves, feed cattle, haul hay and grain commodities throughout fall and winter months. Spring calving starts at this time. Employees are needed to help care for newborn calves and nursing mothers - vaccinate and treat for sickness throughout the spring season. Spring work consists of preparing soil and planting crops, putting up the hay crop, along with basic farm maintenance duties, such as snow removal and fencing. Cow/calf pairs are prepped and transported back to pasture at this time, and employees will need to check fences. By July - harvest, calving, and planting periods have been completed, causing a slow period for mid-summer months, until harvest and cattle work begin all over again in September. Employees will complete general farm duties as assigned. Employees will need to complete routine repairs and maintenance on equipment.
