- Offer description:
The Beekeeper performs essential manual and mechanical tasks in commercial beekeeping, focusing on honey production and colony health. Workers manage bee colonies at all stages, from eggs to mature workers, drones, and queens. Primary responsibilities include operating a queen breeding yard, raising and replacing queens, and performing divides to support colony growth. Workers assess colonies for food and medical needs, applying feed and treatments to control diseases, pests, and parasites. Hives are sterilized when necessary, and diseased colonies are properly disposed of. Workers also construct, paint, and clean hive boxes, assemble hives using hand tools, and insert honeycombs into frames. They manipulate and maintain hive structures, transport and set up hives for pollination, and relocate hives as needed. During honey harvest and processing, workers uncap and extract honey from combs, operate mechanized extraction equipment, separate wax from honey, and transport honey to the extraction facility. Honey is filtered and prepared for packaging through moisture reduction, and wax is processed and packaged. Workers also assist in maintaining and cleaning extraction equipment. Physical and environmental requirements include lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds regularly and performing repetitive bending, stooping, and kneeling. The work is outdoors in varied weather conditions, including rain, high humidity, and extreme temperatures, and involves prolonged periods of standing or walking. Workers must have no fear of bees and no allergies to bee stings, pollen, honey, or other hive products. They must wear assigned personal protective equipment and report to work in durable footwear and appropriate clothing (no uniforms provided). Adherence to safety protocols and work attire standards is mandatory. Schedules may vary based on weather, crop conditions, and environmental factors, and workers must report to designated locations on time each day, occasionally working in inclement weather. The employee may be expected to travel to North Dakota and will be paid the required AEWR rate of $19.21 an hour while in that state.
