Crops/Commodities: Cotton. Prepare equipment and facilities for the cotton ginning season. Operate, inspect, maintain and repair gin equipment and machinery in connection with the ginning of cotton. This includes cleaning, greasing, oiling, and ensuring all parts are in working condition. Assist with the preparation of the cotton gin facility, ensuring all areas are clean, organized, and ready for operation. This may include moving equipment, setting up workstations, and ensuring proper functioning of air circulation and dust collection systems. Review safety protocols, ensure the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE), and assist with setting up safety signs and equipment for the season. Help to prepare storage areas for the incoming cotton, ensuring that cotton bins, trailers, and storage units are properly sanitized and prepared for the season. Load and unload cotton bales, transporting cotton from storage or delivery trucks to the ginning machines. Ensure that cotton is processed efficiently without contamination or damage. Operate or assist in the operation of various cotton gin machinery, such as the cotton feeder, gin stand, and separator. Work as part of a team to ensure smooth and efficient ginning operations. Regularly clean ginning equipment to ensure it operates at maximum efficiency. Perform minor maintenance tasks and troubleshoot issues as needed, reporting any major malfunctions to supervisors. Assist with monitoring the ginning process, ensuring that cotton is processed according to quality standards and adjusting settings or machinery as necessary. Help in the packing and storing of ginned cotton and related products, ensuring that bales are properly secured and stored in designated areas. Assist in managing cotton by-products such as cottonseed and waste materials. Ensure proper disposal or storage of by-products as directed by supervisors. Perform other manual labor tasks as needed to support ginning operations, including working in dusty, noisy, and potentially hazardous environments. Clean the cotton gin facility and surrounding areas after the season ends, including washing down equipment, sweeping, and removing debris. Disassemble any equipment that requires cleaning or maintenance. Assist with the safe shutdown of gin machinery and equipment. Help with the disassembly and storage of machinery, tools, and supplies for the off-season. Perform basic maintenance on equipment and machinery, preparing it for the next season. This includes oil changes, lubrication, and any necessary repairs. Ensure all equipment is properly stored and that safety protocols are followed during the clean-up process. Maintain a safe working environment for all employees during post-season activities. Using the employer's vehicles, licensed drivers may transport workers on and off the farm and may be offered additional hours. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break. TERMINATION. Prior to any termination for cause, employer evaluates workers' performance of required tasks and compliance with Work Rules and other employer policies.
