- Offer description:
Crops: Apples, Blueberries, Cucumbers and Peaches This work order covers hand/mechanical harvesting blueberries, plastic maintenance/removal, and pruning. Workers are designed as seasonal employees. Blueberry Hand Harvesting: Move along row, stoop and bend over to pick ripe blueberries to specifications as directed by the supervisor being careful not to harvest immature/green fruit. Workers will carry full buckets weighing approximately 7 pounds to nearby weigh station. The workers will be given a voucher for the filled container or containers. Workers must 'clean the bush' pick all blueberries of marketable ripeness as specified by the supervisor. It is extremely important that the workers do not remove unripe fruit. Also, workers must carefully remove the decayed and deformed blueberries from the plant or picking containers and discard them. Workers will be required to stay on their assigned row. Workers must take care of all times not to bruise the blueberries. Blueberry Mechanical Harvest: Workers may also be required to work on the back or top of the harvester. The worker will transfer empty lugs to the fruit discharge conveyor and stack full lugs on the harvester, pallets, or carts. This will require the lifting and carrying of approximately 40 pounds repeatedly and stacking full lugs over the height of the worker’s head. Workers must be careful to remove any debris from lugs as it comes off fruit conveyor into lugs. Lugs must be filled to the level required by the supervisor. Blueberry Pruning: While pruning bushes, workers will receive proper tools for the particular job, i.e., saw, prunes, and hand snips. These tools will be returned to the employer at the end of the task. The cost of tools destroyed maliciously or lost carelessly will be charged to the worker. The supervisor will set a standard or pattern for each field and will demonstrate and communicate this to workers. Workers will be assigned rows of bushes and must prune each bush according to the predetermined standard. Workers must remove all resulting material from the bushes rendered from performing pruning tasks. When pruning is complete on each bush, each worker is required to place the resulting brush in the center of the tractor/equipment middles. Workers will be required to return pruning equipment to the toolbox provided by the grower at the end of each workday or as directed by the grower or designed supervisor. Blueberry Plastic Maintenance/removal: Along with harvesting workers are responsible for in season maintenance of plastic, such as repairing blowing of loose plastic by using a round point shovel to prepare a trench and bury the edge of plastic under the soil as well as remove weeds in and around plastic. In addition, there could be intermittent plastic removal which involves preparing the plastic for mechanical or manual removal. Workers are responsible for clearing all plastic from the fields. This work order covers packing of blueberries. Workers are designated seasonal employees. Blueberry Packing: (Excluding Apple Packing) Packing of blueberries may include the following tasks: Lug Dumpling: Worker hand dumps full blueberry tugs up to 40 pounds, onto incline conveyor repeatedly. Careful attention to gentle handling of fruit as it is poured onto the conveyor is a must along with communication to supervisor of any quality concerns. Grading: Working carefully and quickly to remove defective blueberries as defined by management. Pint Filling: Worker will staff the pint filler to ensure empty pints are in place for filling; adjust filler as needed per management direction. This is a fast-paced position and requires active communication with management and lug dumper. Label Machine Operator: Ensure that labels and codes are properly adhering and /or printed on clamshells. Changing of label spools is required as is maintenance and general cleaning of the machine as directed by management.
