The activities to be perform by the workers will be based on the various tasks that are essential for the care of the plants and the proper operation of the facilities. The following is a description of the activities to be carries out by the employees during their workday. Transplanting: Workers are in charge of planting different types of plants, from seeds to large seedlings. To do this, they dig holes in the soil, place the plant and ensure that the roots are well covered so the plant will grow healthy. Weeding: Employees will remove weeds growing around the plants. By getting read of the weeds, plants can grow without competition for water and nutrients. Fumigating: To protect plants from pests and diseases, workers will apply pesticides or fungicides. This is done carefully, following instructions and taking the necessary precautions to avoid damaging the plants and the environment. Watering: Workers will be in charge of watering the plants, either manually or using automatic irrigation systems. They will make sure that each type of plant receives the necessary amount of water for its correct development. Pruning: Employees will cut dry or damaged branches from the plants to encourage healthier growth. They will also trim some parts to give the plant a proper shape or to promote growth in certain directions. Fertilizing: Employees will apply fertilizers to ensure that plants received the nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy. Maintain farm tools: Workers will also be responsible for maintaining tools and equipment in good condition. This includes cleaning and caring for shovels, pruning shears, among others. Employees may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available, there is a possibility that available work hours will be in excess of 20% of the hours offered but they are not guaranteed, the worker is not required to work more than the stated daily hours in the contract and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer’s control. These periods can occur any time throughout the season. If workers request a leave of absence during the contract period, if the worker has been offered an opportunity to work, the hours will be deducted from the hours offered under the ETA-790 for the purposes of the three-quarter guarantee. A copy of the work contract or a copy of the ETA 790 in lieu of a work contract, and any modifications, will be provided to the H-2A worker no later than the time at which the worker applies for the Visa, or to a worker in corresponding employment, no later than on the day work commences. For an H-2A worker going from an H-2A employer to a subsequent H-2A employer, a copy of the contract will be provided no later than the time an offer of employment is made by the subsequent H-2A employer.
