PICKLES: 1. Walking between rows thinning plants and hoeing out weeds, one row at a time. 2. Vine training, workers straddle the plant row, then move and tuck vines back into the row. 3. Picking- pick one row at a time. Sizes of pickles are: No. 1, 1 1/16 inches and smaller diameter. No. 2, 1 1/16 inches to 1 ½ inches in diameter. To be picked into a 5/8 BU bucket, between 20 and 30 Lb, Once the bucket is ¾ full to level full the worker will turn around and dump it on a self propelled conveyor belt. Once dumped the worker will repeat the process until the daily patch is picked. PEPPERS: Planting: Sit on a seat and put one plant per opening on a carousel planter as it moves up the field. The worker also puts new plant trays on planter racks at each end of field and removes the used trays and puts them back in the plant racks. HOEING: Worker hoes or pulls all weeds that are around the plants. Worker takes one row at a time until they reach the end of the field and then start the process all over again. PICKING: Pick one row at a time and don’t change rows until they get to the other end of the field. The worker is expected to pick mature fruit without breaking branches off of plants. The peppers are to be picked in a 5/8 BU bucket, between 20 and 30 lb. Once the bucket is level full worker turns around and dumps bucket on a self-propelled conveyor belt. Once dumped, the worker will turn back around and start the process all over again. PULLING DRIP TAPE: Worker will take one bed at a time. They will start at one end of the field pulling black drip tape that is buried from one end to the other. Once worker reaches the end, pile up the tape and load it on a wagon. When this is done, start the process all over again. Trenching water off of field to a ditch using a shovel to cut a trench. PICKING UP STICKS AND STONES: The worker will pick up sticks and stones out of the field by using their hands. Once picked up the worker will throw them in a 5-gallon bucket, between 25 and 30 lb., load bucket on the tractor or wagon. PICKLE GRADING STATION: Workers would stand at a sorting belt that is moving in front of them and pick out imperfect pickles (cucumbers) and throw into a cull belt. They also might have to put large cardboards boxes together to put cucumbers into. The worker in order to perform this kind of work must be able to work outside for at least 6 hours a day in all kinds of weather and be in possession of the requisite physical strength and endurance, working quickly and skillfully with their hands, a one-month experience in this type of work is required. The employer will provide the tools necessary (if applicable) to perform the described job duties without charge to the worker. Employer may deduct the reasonable cost of damages and/or replacement of tools and/or equipment if such repair or replacement results from willful neglect or gross negligence after the damage has occurred and after gaining the employee's written authorization to make the deduction. Employees may volunteer to work additional hours when work is available, there is a possibility that available work hours will be in excess of 20% of the hours offered but they are not guaranteed, the worker is not required to work more than the stated daily hours in the contract and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays Workers should expect occasional periods of little or no work because of weather, crop or other conditions beyond the employer’s control. These periods can occur any time throughout the season. If workers request a leave of absence during the contract period, if the worker has been offered an opportunity to work, the hours will be deducted from the hours offered under the ETA-790 for the purposes of the three-quarter guarantee.
