Crops/Commodities: Variety of specialty herbs and vegetables. Workers will use no-till market gardening techniques, organic practices and care for vegetables and specialty crops that require great attention to detail. All job duties will be done manually without any mechanization. Plant, cultivate, harvest, grade, pack and load a variety of specialty herbs and vegetables by hand. Plant roots, seeds and bulbs. Transplant using paper pot transplanters. Weed and thin crops. Apply mulch and perform manual shovel work. Spread plastic or other ground covering. Clean plastic by hand from ground upon removal. Stake/tie plants, trellis/prune plants, and set poles and wires for vine plants. Pick, cut, lift, or pull crops. Tie vegetables in bunches. Grade, size, clean, pack, weigh and load product. Lower and clip plants, remove shoots, prune, de-leaf, and harvest crops. Raise and lower vines. Stack and un-stack product and supplies. Take care to prevent damaging produce and plants. Construct trellises and repair fences and farm/nursery structures. Participate in irrigation activities, including setting up and operating irrigation equipment, install drippers, hang hooks and clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches. Apply natural and organic insecticides. Apply fertilizers to crops. Inform farmers or farm managers of crop progress. Identify plants, pests and weeds to determine the selection and application of insecticides and fertilizers. Record information about crops such as yields. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Mow, cut, and weed fields. Perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, and other manual tasks. Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Assist with farm/ nursery building/field maintenance and repairs. Workers must be able to handle, lift, and carry heavy or bulky objects (product, containers) in accordance with the specified lifting requirements. Assist with Good Agricultural Practices policies. Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a proficient manner without close supervision. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break. Workers will work one of two shifts. First shift is Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Second shift is Tuesday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. TERMINATION. Prior to any termination for cause, employer evaluates workers' performance of required tasks and compliance with Work Rules and other employer policies. Employer may terminate a worker for cause if the worker's performance consistently and/or substantially fails to satisfy the employer's reasonable expectations (in accordance with the criteria set forth herein), or otherwise engages in serious or egregious misconduct that endangers health, safety, or property.
