All applicants must be able, willing and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Section A, Box 3 & 4. Workers will be required to: manually plant, cultivate, and harvest a variety of fruits and vegetables including sweet corn, cucumbers, squash, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Use hand tools, such as shovels, hoes, pruning hooks, shears and knives; till soil; transplant, weed, thin, and prune crops; clean and pack harvested products; drive and operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, trucks, and forklifts; transport harvested fruits and vegetables from field to packing house; prune trees seasonally to promote optimum growth of tree and fruit; and apply pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers to crops following DEC guidelines. Workers will also be asked to assist in greenhouses where workers will: mix dirt; fill containers; plant, spray, weed, fertilize and water plants and flowers; and perform tasks using hands and gardening tools. Workers may operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer's fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid driver’s license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver's license. Picking apples requires workers to handle ladders up to 22’ and pick into buckets strung around shoulders that weigh up to 40 pounds when filled. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds on a consistent basis. The work is physically demanding, bending, stooping and kneeling for long periods of time will be required. Field temperatures may range from 0 to 90+ degrees (F) with possible wet morning conditions. The employer will furnish to workers without cost all tools and equipment required to perform all duties assigned. Workers must be available to work 9-hour shifts within the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm on Sunday, Tuesday through Thursday and may be requested to work a 10-hour shifts within the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm on Friday and may require to work a 9-hour shift between the hours of 7:00am - 7:00pm on Saturday. The workers will be given a 60-minutes for lunch which is staggered between 11am - 1pm as decided by the workers and will return to work after their 60 minutes are up. Workers will also receive a 15-minute break in the morning and a 15-minute break in the afternoon as agreed upon by the worker and management. Workers may not use cell phones for personal use during work times. Phone use must be limited to breaks and lunch. Employee may be asked to help complete GAPs related paperwork and checklist related to sanitation and harvest information. Once hired, employers may conduct random drug tests at employer’s expense. Workers should report for work with their own suitable clothing. The daily or weekly work schedules may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, orchard conditions, and other factors. Employers will notify workers of any change to the schedule. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow 2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform duties described in this job description. Workers must be able to take directions in simple English. Workers referred against this order must have a minimum of three months verifiable experience.
