Operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer’s fields and/or transport workers to the grocery store, or bank on an as-needed basis. Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities. Not all workers are requested to drive; drivers will be required to possess a valid operators license. No one will be rejected for the position that does not possess a class D license. Workers will plant and cultivate vegetables, berries, melons and field crops both manually and by operating tractors and tractor drawn machinery. Must be able to determine when crops such as snow peas, collard greens, celeriac, winter squash and melons are ripe and harvest by hand without bruising the produce or damaging the plants. Must be able to work around bees especially when harvesting squash, tomatoes and berries. Must be able to lift and carry 70 Ibs consistently throughout the day. Must be able to bend and stoop and stand on feet for long periods of time to weed and harvest crops. Must be able to work in fields in temperatures as low as 20 degrees which can persist from October 1 through end of season. Must be able to use hand tools: shovels to dig soil and remove rocks; trowels to plant seedlings; hoes to remove weeds without damage to plants and roots; tampers to plant seeds; shears to prune; and knives to harvest produce without cutting vines. Apply nonrestricted pesticides; clean, pack and load harvested products; construct trellises: repair fences and farm buildings; maintain irrigation ditches; set up and operate irrigation equipment such as drip lines, pumps, pipes and sprinklers and make minor repairs to tractors and implements. Will operate tractors, tractor drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow, fertilize and spray crops. Operate tractors to plant with water wheel and mechanical transplanters and cultivate with specialized cultivating tractors. Will be responsible for operating tractors in fields and around barns to haul loads of produce to washing and packing station. Workers are required to understand simple instructions in English in order to not endanger themselves or others while working around or on equipment. Will inform farmer of crop progress: identify plants, pests and weeds to determine selection of non-restricted pesticides or fertilizer and record information about crops. While working in the field, all cell phone usage is limited to emergency use only. Employer may conduct/require random illegal drug or alcohol tests at employer?s expense after hiring, for the safety of themselves and others as they will be operating machinery. Failure to comply with request or testing positive for illegal drugs will result in termination. Three months of verifiable experience in the aforementioned.
