On farms, employees will assist in all aspects of planting, cultivating, irrigating, and harvesting grain crops and soybeans. Employees will engage in the spraying of fertilizer and application of herbicide, insecticide, and pesticide to crops to protect against insects, fungus, and weed growth. Duties will include mowing, spraying, weed eating and seeding. Maintain farm equipment, vehicles, and irrigation pivots, including preventative maintenance and general repair. Operate lawn mowing and other site care equipment such as weed trimmers, pesticide sprayers, and tractors. Employees will also assist with identifying disease, nutritional issues, measuring plant populations, completing plant analysis, and harvest maturity staging. Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, sawmill and forestry equipment, and self-propelled machinery according to the operator's manual and OSHA standards if applicable, to plow, harrow and fertilize soil or plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops. Record information about crop management and production, yield, and quality to help managerial staff better understand crop fertilization needs. Informing farm owners or farm managers of crop progress, stages of growth, fertilizer needs, and monitor stages of growth for harvesting and communication to feed mill. Maintain the quality of corn in the grain bins, including monitoring temperatures and controlling moisture. Properly maintain all equipment and vehicles according to the operator’s manual prior to operation. Perform general maintenance and upkeep required for all farm equipment prior to and during operation, including but not limited to greasing equipment and monitoring all fluid levels according to the operator's manual. Maintain farming inventory and supplies, including ordering materials related to irrigation equipment. Manure management to ensure application of nutrients to crops; complete required manure system monitoring forms, monitor manure storage levels, operate manure separator, and remove manure solids from manure separator and deliver to the fields. Additional duties will include performing repairs to farm buildings, fencing and other structures on the farm. Employees will be expected to maintain work areas in an organized, clean, and safe fashion. Employees must follow biosecurity standards and herd health policies, which includes mandatory showering and changing into farm clothes prior to entering the farm, having no contact with other swine, and adhering to down-time requirements as established by PIC (Pig Improvement Company).
