Farm Equipment Mechanics and Service Technicians Diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems. Tasks Maintain, repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems, trucks, trailers, buses and other agricultural machinery Performing routine maintenance and oil changes on company vehicles, buses, and all agriculture equipment, ensuring all systems operate efficiently. Conducting inspections and troubleshooting to locate mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues. Dismantle defective machines and components for repair, using hand and power tools. Record details of repairs made and parts used. Reassemble machines and equipment following repair, testing operation and making adjustments, as necessary. Cleaning, lubricating, and tuning machinery to maintain optimal performance. Test and replace electrical components and wiring, using test meters, soldering equipment, and hand tools. Tune or overhaul engines. Examine and listen to equipment, read inspection reports, and confer with customers to locate and diagnose malfunctions. Repair or replace defective parts, using hand tools, milling and woodworking machines, lathes, welding equipment, grinders, or saws. Drive trucks to haul tools and equipment for on-site repair of large machinery. Fabricate new or replacement metal parts, using drill presses, engine lathes, and other machine tools. Repair bent or torn sheet metal and other structural components. Refinishing equipment to maintain its appearance and protect it from environmental wear and tear including use of spray paint can. Install and repair agricultural irrigation, plumbing, and sprinkler systems. Diagnose and Troubleshoot Equipment: Inspect farm machinery and equipment to identify mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues. Use diagnostic tools, manuals, and experience to determine the root cause of malfunctions. Adjust and Calibrate Machinery: Fine-tune machinery settings and components to ensure optimal performance, including adjusting hydraulic systems, electrical wiring, and mechanical linkages. Repair and Replace Components: Conduct repairs or replace defective parts on a variety of equipment, such as vehicles, trucks, trailers, tractors, harvest machines, harvest trailers, pumps, water booster pumps, and other specialized agricultural machinery. Utilize hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment as needed. Install New Equipment: Assemble, install, and integrate new farm implements and equipment into existing operations, ensuring compatibility and proper functionality. Perform Preventative Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections and maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and testing of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Winterizing Equipment: Prepare equipment for off-season storage by cleaning, inspecting, and addressing potential damage or wear. Drain fluids, grease moving parts, and ensure proper storage conditions to prevent deterioration. Irrigation Equipment Repairs: Repair and maintain irrigation systems, including pumps, valves, sprinkler heads, and pipelines. Troubleshoot leaks, clogs, and pressure issues to ensure consistent water delivery. Steering and Suspension Repairs: Diagnose and repair steering systems and suspension components to maintain vehicle and equipment stability and performance. Shop Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized workspace by regularly cleaning tools, equipment, and work surfaces. Dispose of waste materials appropriately and ensure compliance with safety standards. Equipment Cleaning and Upkeep: Clean and detail farm equipment to remove dirt, debris, and residue, ensuring that machinery is in top condition and ready for use.
