- Offer description:
We plant crops in the late spring/early summer and harvest them during the fall. These months are very labor intensive and require lots of help to maintain and grow crops. This role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities within agricultural operations, equipment maintenance, irrigation management, crop care, and transportation logistics. Key duties include preparing fields for planting, operating and maintaining various farming machinery such as tractors, plows, seed drills, harvesters, and irrigation systems, and engaging in crop management activities like planting, fertilizing, irrigating, spraying pesticides, and controlling weeds. The role also involves overseeing the harvesting process, inspecting crops for quality, sorting, and unloading them, and ensuring proper storage. Maintenance of agricultural equipment is another crucial aspect of the job, which includes troubleshooting, repairing, and performing routine upkeep on machinery like tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems. This may require conducting general repairs to ensure optimal performance of all equipment. Additionally, the role includes overseeing farm infrastructure maintenance, including the repair of buildings, fences, and mowing to ensure the smooth operation of the farm. Transportation duties involve driving farm plated trucks to haul crops, supplies, and tools, ensuring cargo is properly secured and transported to the appropriate destinations, while adhering to safety protocols and relevant regulations. The job also entails managing pest and weed control by applying herbicides and pesticides to prevent damage to crops and overseeing pest management strategies, such as trapping rodents. The position requires attention to detail and strong organizational skills, as it includes tracking and recording agricultural data, such as crop yields, pesticide use, and material inventory. Additionally, employees may interact with the public, providing advice on plant selection, care, and maintenance, as well as offering insights into farming operations and best practices. The role often requires overseeing seasonal or casual laborers during planting and harvesting seasons, ensuring efficient workflow and proper handling of tasks. Overall, this position demands a solid understanding of farming and agricultural practices, technical proficiency in operating and maintaining machinery, and the ability to manage multiple aspects of farm operations, from crop production and equipment repair to transportation and logistics. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion. Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.
